Dental Inlays and Onlays

Partial Crowns

Sometimes referred to as partial crowns, inlays and onlays use an existing tooth as a solid base and sit over the top in order to provide strength, restore shape and prevent any further damage or decay.

An inlay is most often used on a tooth which has only a little damage to the cusp or pointed part of the biting surface which means the repair can be placed directly on to the tooth.

An onlay is used when the damage is more severe.

In order to fit and inlay or onlay, the decayed area of the tooth is removed first. After this a mold is created and sent to the dental lab where the repair restoration is manufactured in porcelain, gold, or a composite resin.

While the lab is creating the inlay or onlay which can take two to three weeks, a temporary fix will be placed on the tooth by your Puyallup Dentist, Dr. Samuel Kwon.

Once the final restoration is ready, it will be cemented in place. The finished repair is extremely neat and indistinguishable from your natural tooth.

Call Dr. Kwon today and he’ll get you into the right crown for you and your smile. (253) 770-0198.
